Today I underwent a Pulmonary Function Test. It involved a lot of intense breathing, heavy panting, huffing and puffing.

Then the nurse and I got dressed and I left.

XD

It was pretty exhausting. I was forced to breathe so forcefully for so long into a couple different machines that it completely wore me out. I won't hear any results until the end of the week or so.

Here's a question that's been bugging me for a while; How much are you supposed to tip the pizza delivery guy? It's not as though he's doing much work. The guy gets to ride around in his car with his stereo cranked. Big friggin' deal. Yet, I'm sure he makes McMinimum wage and I don't know if he's compensated at all for mileage/gas, and considering the prices I'm sure he's counting on bigger tips. People typically give a hard working waitress fifteen to twenty percent as a tip and they deserve more than a pizza guy. If you spend twenty dollars on pizza, fifteen percent is three bucks. Is that good enough or too much?

I wouldn't want my pizza guy thinking I'm a cheap bastard and spitting on my pizza before he delivers it each time.

Q. How are a gynecologist and a pizza delivery guy alike?
A. They can both
smell it but they can't eat it!

WAKKA WAKKA!

My pizza driver never asks me how it tastes, like the waitresses do.

I think 10% is good, maybe more if you start recognizing the driver.

...the delivery guys start being a little more casual and friendly with you; as in, they show up at your doorstep once a week. At least. whether or not you recognize them, they recognize you.

Hey, I don't do adult so well. So what? *shrug* At least I don't teach my step-daughters the correct spelling of "bitch".

The funny thing is that he really didn't teach her that; she learned it from school. Which I guess isn't funny as in ha-ha, more like ironic. ;)

Nah, what's funny to me is that she blamed him for it. Like, shared blame is somehow better?

I used to drive delivery. I never got any compensation for gas or mileage. I love it when people tipped because that was what I mostly lived off of. When I had to go to people's homes who were notorious bad tippers, I'd take my time or do their delivery last or something. I think $3 on a $20 pizza is reasonable.

So what was the percentage of people who didn't tip?

Most people tipped at least a little. Delivering to the Courage Center usually ended up tipless, but most of those guys didn't really get out or understand the idea of tipping.

A buddy who used to deliver pizzas himself only tips $2, and says that's plenty.

They don't refill your drinks, after all.

I tend to be a little more generous though, especially since most times I order pizza it's because the weather is way too nasty for me to want to drive in it =).

They must be doing pretty well for themselves as there seems to be no shortage of people getting hired as pizza delivery drivers. Though a lot of them probably sell pot on the side. That's been my experience anyway.

$1. I delivered for Domino's back in the day. At that time, we got .22 a mile without a sign or .28 a mile with plus our hourly minimum wage. That was before places started tacking on a delivery charge. A roommate was a driver for Pizza Hut, they got the mileage as well.

Except that the "delivery charge" doesn't even go to the driver which makes no sense to me. Why have a delivery charge if you're not giving it to the guy doing the delivery?!

Being the asshole that I am I got into an argument with one of the managers of a local chain in 'cloud called 'Toppers'. They have a $2.50 delivery charge. I asked whether any of that money actually went to the drivers. No. I asked whether the drivers used their own cars. Yes. I asked whether the drivers got comp for gasoline. No. Only answer I got was it was 'corporate policy'.

Reason I even got into it with him was that they're already taking $2.50 off the top and I would assume the driver expects/needs me to shell out another 2-3 bucks to make it worth his while. That's 5-6 bucks on top of the original pizza price they advertise in HUGE headline letters on their circulars.

If I order from them now, I just go out and pick the fucker up. No tip, no delivery charge. Ten minutes of my time.

One of the things I miss about living in the city are the liquor stores that deliver. When I shattered my ankle with a forklift back in '96 that really came in handy.

J used to drive for Davanni's, on the west bank. he rarely got tipped because he drove to rich people and students.
most places don't have mileage reimbursement, and they get paid as little as waitresses. so they live off of tips.

Except I meant to say $2 instead of $3. But that was like, 5 years ago, so inflation could very well have it at $3 now.

I usually tip $3, just because I figure that if someone is delivering pizzas for a living they need the extra buck more than I do. I feel the same way about waiters and bartenders.

i tip $2 for a pizza. if it made it in record fucking time i've tipped 3 bucks, or if it was some huge complicated order i'd tip 3 bucks. but now theres a little ceasers near me so i can stop by on my way home and pick up a $5 pizza, so i rarely order delivery anymore. i like $5 pizza.

My base is usually 20%. Because I've been there and know what it's like to be living on your tips. Deliveries I usually round down, so if it's a $22 bill, for example, I'll tip $4 - when it's eat-in I round up.

I also tip take-out; not for pizza, but stuff like Chinese or restaurant that involves putting an order together, I will. 15% unless it's a big order or complicated.

I think 15% for pizza is fine though. Or [info]ethel's $2 for the first pizza and a buck for each one after that.

Wow. You've given this some serious thought. I've never thought to tip people who put the take-out bag together but I suppose if I were to regularly purchase food from a specific restaurant that would become necessary.
