Here's one of those, "I might have been wrong," posts.

I just want to say that I'm not a geek. But I grew up watching Star Trek, I love the original series (see, not a geek; I didn't call it TOS), I really enjoyed The Next Generation and grew into Deep Space 9 (it got much better as it went along). Voyager and Enterprise were both complete piles of shit which should be disregarded and forgotten. And I'm looking forward to the new movie.

Okay, that's an understatement. I can't friggin' wait for the new movie.

But I always hated hated hated Wil Wheaton. The only part of The Next Generation that sucked were the scenes with Wesley Crusher. That whiny little pissant should have been killed off or dispatched in some way a lot sooner than what actually came to fruition. And in the end they made this douche look like a complete, unwarranted hero. Fuck Wesley Crusher. And fuck Wil Wheaton. He sucks as an actor and every scene in which he participated ruined an otherwise great show.

But the more I read the stuff he's written (he's got a lot of geeks on his side for some reason and the shit he writes inexplicably attracts a lot of readers) the more I realize he's a pretty cool guy and that I like the way his mind works. He may still be a completely shit actor who should never be in front of a camera again but I...I kinda like him. He's got heart and an interesting personality.

I'll still delete any Wesley Crusher episodes that the tivo captures but I'm forced to admit that Wheaton is a cool guy. Hopefully it's never revealed that he's actually a pederast or something. I kinda sorta dig the guy.

Just sayin'.

I should be writing a lot more than I am today but I've been listening to a lot of Daylight Dies instead, due to my current mood. I interviewed the drummer of this band and their last release, Lost To The Living, was one of my favorite albums of last year. It's heavy. It's metal. Here's a YouTube rip of the song "Woke Up Lost." It's more accessible because of the clean vocals so you might dig it.

I used the word devastating as a fulcrum point to the review of the album. It rings true. There's a lot of weight to their music. It's beautiful, impossibly heavy, dirgey doom metal.

Most of their stuff is even heavier with growling vocals. If you can appreciate the above clip check out "This Morning Light," a song with riffs that cut so deep during the chorus they opted against vocals.

The Morning Light - Daylight Dies

I adore this band. Particularly during times like this.
